The Extru-Tech®
E525 Cooker/Extruder excels when producing specialty-type
products where low production capacity requirements and high
profit margins are expected. The E525 has been specifically
engineered to process products that require intricate,
consistent shaping. This is achieved through using a smaller
extruder bore, 135 mm (5.25") and precision machined
barrel components. The exacting tolerances held between the
screws, shearlocks, and heads that make up the extruder
barrel, provide an incredibly positive flow of extrudate
through the extruder's die orifices. The product shaping
and uniformity capabilities of the E525 are comparable to
those accomplished with considerably higher priced twin screw
extruders.

The E525
Cooker/Extruder is available with three different styles of
feeding systems depending on the types of raw materials to be
processed. The first system, (which is used to convey easy
flowing, granular materials such a degerminated corn meal), is
a 142 liter (5 ft.³) stainless steel surge hopper bin with a
vibratory feeder. The second system, (which is used to convey
flour and/or ground cereal grain materials either directly
into the extruder barrel inlet or into a preconditioning unit
prior to extrusion), is a 283 liter (10 ft.³) stainless steel
live-bottom bin/variable-speed feeder screw combination. The
third system, (which is used to convey flour and/or ground
cereal grain materials directly into a preconditioning unit at
higher material feed rates), incorporates an 877 liter (31 ft.³)
stainless steel live-bottom bin and a separate stainless steel
variable-speed feeder screw.
Product
characteristics such as texture, desired starch gelatinization
level, shape, density, and cell structure will determine the
optimum barrel length and design of screws, shearlocks, and
heads.
