In
past years, most research extruders were operated from a bench
top and were only a fraction of the size of the production
machines they were trying to represent. Data attained from
tests performed on such extruders was usually found to be
unrepresentative of actual production conditions and could not
be utilized to scale up processes to larger production
systems. With the E325, customers do research on an extrusion
system that has been scaled down proportionately from
Extru-Tech's larger production units. Extrusion
characteristics imperative to product research and development
such as moisture levels, temperatures, pressures, retention
times, and amount of starch gelatinization achieved are
identical to those found on the larger production models. The
only difference is the amount of product being processed.
Instead of producing several tons per hour, the E325 has a
capacity range of 150-800 pounds per hour (150-363 kg/hr). At
this capacity level, the E325 extrusion system is large enough
to allow researchers and marketers to produce products for use
in test market studies.
